An infrared panoramic image forms the background for Bubble of reality, one of the first NFTs by André Wagner, and this NFT is a wink in homage to the world of the Web3.
Almost imperceptibly and dimly, in the spinning bubble appears the logo of Ethereum, the cryptocurrency chasing Bitcoin. The Crystal Bubble floats stably within itself. But it is vulnerable. What if the bubble bursts?
In front of an infrared-photographed forest, a glass ball seems to float in the room, as if in the fortune-teller's disguised bowl. But the glass is thin, very thin. It's more of a delicate, sensitive bubble. Inside, the same subject rotates. Also a panoramic photograph of the same landscape, but taken normally, against whose colors the background landscape seems even more surreal.
What does the ethereum logo do in this bubble? Is anyone today able to prophesy clairvoyantly with a glance at the ball? To what extent can we trust the extensive analysis? Will our future still be graspable in the usual way for our senses? What does the glass ball say?
Already today we can ask ourselves: what is our real world and the "right" future? Because although the infrared image in the background shows our usual world, it is not ours. Why not? Because we do not know the environment in this way. Our brain struggles with the contradiction of interpreting the known structures and yet does not recognize the spectrum.
Because we are not able with our senses to really perceive everything that actually exists, our feeling is resisted. What we see with our own eyes we do not want to accept, because it seems unreal, “not right” to us.
In this way, this NFT becomes a metaphor about the NFT art itself: familiar things, a photograph, in a form that presents itself to us as not yet fully tangible. Unfamiliar, new; a fantasy? And maybe still present?
