01 — THE ARTISTIC POSITION
ANDRÉ WAGNERTime, light
and inner depth.
I work with time, light and a depth that extends beyond the visible. Spirituality and philosophy shape my exploration of perception and presence.
My works slow the gaze. They bring calm together with intensity, giving spaces a grounding presence and an energy of their own. This creates a presence that people can live with over time.

PERSONAL CONSULTATION · BESPOKE PRESENTATION
Time for the work.
And for conversation.
Choosing a work you want to return to. There is time here to look, compare and ask your own questions. In conversation, we explore the artistic context and the work’s presence in its intended setting.
Arrange a personal conversation ↗Understanding the work
Our conversation explores how a work came about, its visual language and its place within my practice. Questions and returning to an image are part of that process.
Considering the space
Light, proportions, architecture and the existing collection inform the selection. We consider how the presence of a work changes with its size and placement.
Refining the presentation
Material and framing are part of the artistic effect. Bespoke frames and carefully selected materials are considered in relation to the work and its surroundings. We discuss the precise presentation personally.
02 — SELECTED SERIES
All series ↗Three ways of seeing light.
Infrared, night and long exposure form distinct worlds of colour in my work.
01↗Colour beyond the familiar spectrum. Infrared transforms landscapes into spaces where perception, memory and a possible future of seeing intertwine.
02↗Fire, water, wind and time meet in a choreography of light. Through long exposure, the landscape becomes a space of elemental movement and luminous traces.
03↗An exploration of India developed over many years. Light, colour, everyday spirituality and human encounters come together in images between immediate experience and memory.

ARTISTIC APPROACH
Colour is not a surface.
It is a force.
I am interested in light and colour as a language of their own. Night and the infrared spectrum each have their own balance and tension.
My photographs invite you to move beyond familiar ways of seeing and experience the world more consciously.
Read the artist statement ↗For more than two decades, I have created my work on journeys, in landscapes and in places of transition.
Some series accompany me for many years. Not because I want to document a place, but because its meaning changes over time.

ART IN ARCHITECTURE
When photography becomes
part of architecture.
For the Zurich project “Zauberwald”, photography was not added afterwards as decoration. Its format, materiality and spatial presence were developed in dialogue with architecture, light and movement.
The red forest creates a tension with the exposed concrete architecture, opening another space of perception within the building.
For site-specific projects, I develop the subject, format and material in dialogue with architecture, light and movement. A work should do more than hang in a space: it should change how that space is perceived.
THEMES AND PERSPECTIVES
Light, time and perception.
What does a camera see that the human eye cannot?
Infrared photography does more than make the invisible visible. It questions whether our familiar perception reveals reality, or only a small part of it.
How can time be photographed?
Long exposure does not stop time; it condenses it. Movement, light and transience leave traces that remain hidden in a single instant.
What changes when photographs are made in sacred places?
André Wagner has worked in India and in spiritually significant places for many years. His photographs do not document a religion. They explore how experience, memory and atmosphere shape an image.
When does an artwork become part of architecture?
In architectural art projects, subject, format and material emerge in dialogue with the space. Photography changes perception, light and movement within the architecture.
Can blockchain strengthen trust in photographic art?
Digital certificates and blockchain technology offer new ways to document an artwork’s provenance, edition size and ownership history transparently.
What does a personal consultation involve?
I take time to discuss the work, its context and the intended space. We consider the selection together and agree on size, materials and bespoke framing.
BEYOND THE VISIBLE
Perception has a limit.
Light does not.

Topics and perspectives
-
What does a camera see that the human eye cannot see?
Infrared photography doesn't just make the invisible visible. It questions whether our usual perception actually shows reality -- or just a small slice of it.
-
How can time be photographed?
Long-term exposure does not stop time, but condenses it, and movement, light and transience leave traces hidden from the individual moment.
-
What changes when photography is created in sacred places?
For many years, André Wagner has worked in India and in spiritually influenced places. His photographs do not document any religion. They examine how experience, memory and atmosphere shape an image.
-
When does a work of art become part of architecture?
In art-in-construction projects, motif, format and material are created in dialogue with space. Photography is not added afterwards, but rather changes perception, light and movement within architecture.
-
Can Blockchain Boost Trust in Photographic Art?
Digital certificates and blockchain technology open up new possibilities for documenting the origin, limitation and ownership history of a work of art in a comprehensible way.
-

When photography becomes part of architecture.
For the Zurich project “Magic Forest”, photography was not subsequently used as decoration. Format, materiality and spatial effect were developed in dialogue with architecture, light and movement.
The work does not change the place by a loud staging, but by color. The red forest creates tension to the visible concrete architecture and opens up a second space of perception within the building.

Places that change us
Why do some places affect us more than others?
In this article, photographer André Wagner reflects on travel, perception and the surprising idea of astrocartography – a perspective that opens up new questions about why certain landscapes can change our creativity and our view of the world.
