A Photographic Pilgrimage to the Heart of the Visible

When I first set foot on Indian soil in 2004, I had no idea that this country would change my artistic life. India did not become a destination for me but a mirror – a place where the outer and inner worlds touch. From this encounter, my series Reflections of India – a long-term project that has grown over more than two decades.

I photographed at sacred rivers, in temple cities such as Vrindavan, Puri, and Mayapur, on streets full of movement, and in moments of quiet devotion. The light of India is not ordinary light – it does not shine onto things but through them. In this transparency, I found a new way of seeing: beyond documentation, beyond surface.

The camera became the tool of an inner search. Often I stood motionless for hours – in the water, in the dust, in the twilight – to find that point where the visible and the invisible merge into one another. Reflections of India is the attempt to capture this transition: the movement from light to spirit, from ritual to stillness, from time to eternity.

Many of the works were created in collaboration with friends and artists who shared my vision. With fire, water, and movement, we created images that depict not so much a scene as an energy – moments in which photography becomes meditation.

India has taught me to understand time not as a sequence but as a circle. Every photograph is part of a larger cycle of perception, devotion, and change. In this sense, the Reflections of India are also a self-portrait: the reflection of an artist who seeks the order of light within chaos.
