Photography as a Mirror of Our Soul Why I Photograph – A Journey Back to Essentials
Art Philosophy and Perception Written by André WagnerA look that sees more than the visible
It often starts with a look.
A ray of light that touches the silence.
A moment that stands out from fleeting time as if to say, “Look at me. I’m real.”
For me, photography was never just about holding on to the outside.
From the beginning, it was a tool to touch the inside – my own and that of the world.
The way inside
When I started photographing, I had no clear goals.
Just the feeling that something in me wanted to express that words couldn’t grasp.
Over time, I realized: I photograph because otherwise I wouldn’t understand who I am.
Every look through the camera is a look inside.
The world I take in is always a mirror.
I also take these thoughts into account. “Dimensions of the Self” on – a text about identity, perception and the power of photography as self-knowledge.
Between things – discovering the invisible
It is not the motives alone that captivate me.
It is what lies between things – the unspoken, the eternal in the fleeting.
In my pictures I look for traces of time, for what passes and yet remains.
The elements – fire, water, wind, earth – are not only natural phenomena, they are carriers of importance.
In “The silent power of intention” I describe how exactly this invisible becomes noticeable – in the vibration, in the energy, in the moment.
The longing for connection
I think every person who photographs carries a question within him.
Some seek beauty, others seek truth.
For me, it was always the longing for connection.
With the moment.
With the place.
With myself.
For me, photography is meditation, retreat and revelation at the same time.
It helps me to slow down, feel, remember – not only what was, but also what is possible.
In the article about photography as meditation I explore this connection of time, light and silence as a gateway to the essential.
Technology is a tool, but not the heart
Technology? Yes, it's part of it. But it's not the heart.
The heart is the moment when you stop because you feel: now it is here.
This now is a gift.
The camera gives me the opportunity to preserve it – not like a possession, but like a bridge.
A bridge to other people who might recognize something of themselves in the picture.
A Quiet Response to the Loud Life
In a world that is so loud, so fast, so full, I need photography in order not to lose myself.
It gives me the courage to see the essential: the vulnerable, the beautiful, the real.
I photograph because I believe that art heals us – not by answering, but by asking us the right questions.
The question that remains
And maybe that's the deepest reason:
I take pictures to ask.
And sometimes, with luck, I find an answer in a picture.
which I had forgotten in myself.
