Romance of Elements
Away from the sea, Deutschland
2006
A closer look at the work
A sequence of golden light circles runs among slender waterside trunks. Fine sparks spread outwards and overlap darker branches. Still water opens on the right, reflecting trees and sky. Leaves, roots and grasses remain distinct on the ground, anchoring the unusual brightness in a specific setting.
Away from the Sea joins two kinds of line: growing branches and regularly repeated movement of light. Circles appear both successive in space and drawn on the picture surface. Water offers a quieter area against their dense rhythm. A temporal action becomes a lasting form without dissolving the shore’s different materials and surfaces.
