Time Flies
Berlin marathon, Deutschland
2019
Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
Marathon runners cross a Berlin bridge in a stream of colour and movement. Beside them, a stone griffin remains sharply present. The photograph places the forward momentum of the runners against a figure that seems to stand outside the passing event.
This contrast gives the city more than one timescale. Human effort passes through a setting marked by older forms, leaving motion where stone appears to endure. The image invites a reading of the marathon as a passage through life, while keeping the physical encounter between moving bodies and architecture at its centre.
