Bicycle Path
2012
A closer look at the work
A yellow bicycle symbol and arrow occupy wet, dark blue paving. Above them, an illuminated structural edge recedes, stretching the narrow image between ground marking and overhead construction. The city on the left remains cropped. Reflected light extends the route towards a less distinct distance.
The marking addresses a moving body. In the still photograph it becomes a starting point for considering directed movement. Arrow and perspective reinforce each other, while the unusually narrow frame restricts lateral possibilities. We see a route but little of its surroundings. This concentration shows how infrastructure gathers attention along particular directions and temporarily excludes other parts of the city.
