Authentic Nature
Big wheel, Deutschland
2011
A closer look at the work
A small illuminated Ferris wheel stands beyond a broad field. Dark furrows lead towards the low horizon. Above, a large grey-green sky contains a short diagonal light trail. Trees close the landscape on the right, while distant lights suggest further habitation to the left.
Big Wheel alters the scale of an ordinarily large attraction. From a distance it becomes one bright sign within a mostly dark field. Mechanical movement appears as a seemingly fixed form of light. The wheel below and trail above establish a visual relationship without necessarily sharing a cause. A few lights at different distances organise the landscape.
