Blue bridge in tokyo, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
Blue and turquoise steel girders form a tunnel above the road. Repeated crossbeams lead towards a darker centre, echoed by white markings and guardrails. Warm lamps punctuate the cool structure. A slight curve in the road keeps the symmetry from becoming completely rigid.
The bridge becomes a sequence of frames within the photograph. Perspective makes its connecting function visible without traffic. Yet the picture also holds the passage still, turning a route into a place where the gaze can remain.
