Authentic Nature
Deutscher wald, Deutschland
A closer look at the work
Dark branches form an irregular arch above dense woodland growth. Glossy leaves spread across the ground, while thin trunks rise into lighter green behind. A fallen branch lies across vegetation on the right. There is no open horizon, keeping attention within a nearby mesh of different surfaces.
The forest appears without a clear division between foreground and background. Every opening leads to further leaves and twigs. Yet graduated brightness establishes depth that looking can cautiously enter. The photograph makes the boundary between overview and proximity tangible: recognising detail sacrifices the whole, while seeing the overall green arrangement lets smaller differences temporarily recede.
