Authentic Nature
Fight 2, Neuseeland
2006
A closer look at the work
A thick trunk stands close in the foreground, hiding part of the landscape. Behind it, a broad crown leans right, with exposed pale branches tracing its curved underside. Further branches lie across green grass. Only a narrow opening reveals open ground and pale sky beyond.
Fight 2 brings the interweaving trees close to the viewer. Curved growth suggests forces without showing a single dramatic event. Upright and sideways-directed lines coexist. The title offers a combative reading, but adaptation and mutual spatial limitation are also visible. Proximity prevents the scene from becoming a simple emblem of one solitary heroic tree.
