A closer look at the work
Dark tree trunks run through the pale expanse of sky. Their varied spacing and branching give the composition an irregular rhythm: the trunks stand closer together on the left, while a substantial trunk holds a position of its own on the right. The narrow blue band of sea draws a calm horizontal behind them. Along the lower edge, leaves, roots and dark ground remain visible, anchoring these almost graphic forms to a particular place.
The title Harlekine im Wind invites a reading of the branching silhouettes as gestures. Movement emerges through the relationships between forms: a bend, a gap, the alternation of slender and broad trunks. At the same time, the sea horizon holds these differences together. How much movement can a still image contain? The photograph poses this question through its arrangement, without assigning the trees a single role.
