The Infrared Journey
Infrared blackforest 1, Deutschland
2021
A closer look at the work
Pink and red leaves form a dense canopy over a stream. Dark trunks interrupt the bright foliage, and pale water passes between rounded black stones. The nearly square composition brings spreading branches and the diagonal course of water close together. Shadows gather at its edges.
Unexpected colour alters the forest before familiar forms become legible again. Leaves resemble a material covering around a dark framework. The image invites a question about how strongly our idea of nature depends on learned colours, even when contours and spatial relationships remain recognisable.
