Japan Street
2016
A closer look at the work
A curved street lamp burns orange above a dark street. White lines organise an empty foreground area; low buildings and small illuminated signs stand behind it. Featureless sky occupies nearly half the frame. The warm lamp provides a nearby focus while distant lights offer slender links to the surroundings.
Markings imply planned use, temporarily suspended by emptiness. The place is visibly unoccupied, without proving a history of abandonment. Light keeps its order legible. Between extensive darkness and small functional signs, nocturnal public space persists without people. The eye follows readiness for possible arrival rather than an event underway.
