Water
Oasis of silence, Schottland
2018
A closer look at the work
Fallen and upright trunks cross above dark woodland water. Moss and small plants occupy wood whose surfaces shift between green, grey and brown. Individual trunks reflect below as long pale lines. Water opens a quiet area within the dense tangle while also making the space harder to survey.
Oasis of Silence places different states of wood together: standing trunks, broken pieces and overgrown remains. They do not form a simple chronology. Instead, past material can become support for further growth. Reflection adds another, only optical layer, asking viewers to distinguish physical surfaces from their images in water.
