A closer look at the work
A large painted figure on the rear wall inclines its head, holding one hand to its temple. Timber and tilted boards accumulate before it. A window on the right opens onto clouds. The figure's quiet posture contrasts with irregular objects that obstruct and deepen the actual room.
Painted contemplation acquires a peculiar presence here. The figure is visible without being bodily present, its apparent absorption unaffected by the awkward objects. Representation and room enter a quiet exchange about attention. The eye passes through material obstacles towards an image of reflection: mental activity appears bound to a wall yet removed from its immediate circumstances.
