Water
Sea Of Meltwater
2014
A closer look at the work
A low snow-covered rise sits beneath nearly white sky. Broad bands of white, grey and rusty brown cross the plain before it. Dark lines mark subtle transitions. A shallow mountain and bright foreground make the landscape expansive yet restrained.
Small differences demand attention. Water, snow and ground are not immediately separable everywhere; tone and texture make boundaries readable. Restraint opens space. The distant rise anchors without dominating. Landscape becomes adjacent states whose gradual distinctions unfold through looking rather than a single dramatic event.
