Water
Reflections in the forest, Deutschland
2018
A closer look at the work
The woodland appears as a reflection in water. Dark trunks draw vertical bands through a field of green and yellow, while small leaves and twigs mark the surface. Bright blue patches open between darker reflections. Without a reliable horizon, top and bottom become less certain than in a landscape seen directly.
The floating details keep two spaces present at once: the flat skin of the water and the depth of the reflected woodland. Attention can move between them without fully separating them. Recognising the trees is accompanied by a slight uncertainty. The landscape is visible, but its spatial order takes shape through the act of looking.
