Vibrations, Indien

Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
At night on the banks of the Ganges, waves of fire move towards the water. Their reflections touch the river before the luminous traces themselves seem to arrive. Light and darkness give visible form to a movement that can also be read as an image of actions and their continuing effects.
The work’s archival text relates these vibrations to karma, using the scene to reflect on consequences unfolding through time. Rather than offering an answer, the photograph holds a question: how do the things we do continue beyond the instant in which we do them? Flowing light and quiet water bring that question into the present moment.
