Water
Water flowers, Deutschland
A closer look at the work
Pale round leaves gather along the lower and right edges of blue water. Small gaps separate them while some overlap. Towards the upper left, the surface is almost empty and gradually becomes lighter. Neither shore nor horizon appears, allowing the plant forms to resemble a loose constellation on a field of colour.
Water Flowers draws tension from the unequal distribution of fullness and emptiness. Attention follows individual leaves and repeatedly reaches the large unoccupied zone. This is not merely background: it determines their spacing and weight. The restricted view holds an ordinary water surface between spatial description and abstract arrangement.
