White Bamboo 6, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
Broad white and silver-grey bamboo surfaces fill the frame. A nearby stem on the right carries cloudy mottling; darker rings remain clearer on the left. Narrow bright gaps lead into unresolved depth. Several nearly equal surfaces stand together without a central subject.
With little colour tension, looking searches for small differences. A matte patch, ring or slight curve distinguishes neighbouring stems. Diversity remains within reduction. Attention need not depend on a striking individual motif; it grows through patiently noticing variation among similar forms.
