A closer look at the work
A green bamboo culm stands distinctly among almost white neighbours. Horizontal nodes divide it into sections; above, its surface turns rusty brown with dark flecks. Surrounding culms appear paler and softer. The close crop excludes ground and canopy, concentrating on differences between cylindrical surfaces.
White Bamboo 1 makes individuality visible within a repeated form. All culms follow a similar vertical order, but one stands out strongly through colour. Its markings keep green from becoming a simple flat area. Attention moves between botanical body and abstract division, with colour, nodes and spacing making one part distinguishable within the group.
