Wingsuit Tree I, Neuseeland
2006
A closer look at the work
A massive twisted trunk fills the foreground. Broad branches extend overhead, opening a view towards hills. Furrows, breaks and pale exposed areas describe the bark. Smaller distant trees intensify the contrast of scale.
The tree appears as a body that could almost be entered: a branch forms a roof and the gap beneath it a visual passage. Sculptural presence and landscape coexist, with close material detail opening onto distant space.
