A closer look at the work
The peacock stands almost frontally. Its open fan fills the width, while its dark legs anchor the spreading form to the ground. Green eyespots punctuate the fine lines of the feathers. Pink foliage and a turquoise path shift the familiar setting of Berlin’s Pfaueninsel into an unusual field of colour.
The relationship between pattern and body shapes the encounter. Seen closely, the fan divides into numerous small signs; from a distance, it becomes a coherent form. The bird remains a living counterpart while also becoming a pictorial surface. The photograph makes attention move between an individual creature and the visual order of its appearance.
