The Infrared Journey — Somewhere in Between
The Pool Beyond Reality
Artwork text and archival details
A place that resists easy understanding. The water rests in stillness, untouched, as if it has slipped outside of time. Beyond it, the landscape begins to shift—trees glow with an unfamiliar intensity, the horizon feels distant, almost constructed, as though reality itself has taken a quiet step aside.
This photograph was taken in the Algarve, at the home of a fellow artist who chose to leave behind one life and begin another here. Migration is often imagined as a clear movement—from one place to another—but in truth, it is a subtle transformation of perception. What once felt stable becomes fluid. What was certain begins to dissolve.
Infrared photography reveals what usually remains hidden. It does not invent a new world; it uncovers a different reading of the same one. In this image, the landscape becomes a reflection of that inner shift—where leaving is not only a physical act, but a reconfiguration of how reality is seen and understood.
The Pool Beyond Reality is not a place of escape. It is a threshold. Between presence and distance. Between memory and arrival. Between the world we know—and the one that slowly emerges when we choose to step beyond it.
