The Infrared Journey
Amour en Paris: The Romance of the Eiffel Tower
A closer look at the work
The Eiffel Tower rises as a dark bluish structure within an almost black vertical frame. A few warm lights interrupt its metalwork. Fine branches spread across the foreground, placing lighter lines in front of the heavy construction. Near the summit, a narrow beam crosses the sky and redirects the otherwise upward movement.
The close viewpoint removes the landmark’s easily surveyed postcard shape. It becomes a sequence of lattice, shadow and light that must be assembled between branches. The romantic title may recall familiar images of Paris, but the photograph meets that familiarity with darkness and obstruction. Recognition becomes the act of finding a known form within a partly legible view.
