The Infrared Journey — Somewhere in Between
The Edge of Wonder
A closer look at the work
A breaking wave occupies almost the entire vertical frame. Its pale foam runs diagonally through turquoise water, dissolving into thin lines along the pink shore. Two people stand at the lower left, close to the edge, holding hands. Their small connection provides a quiet counterpoint to the intricate surf. The downward view makes their bodies appear compact and the moving water all the more extensive.
The relationship of scale gives the scene its tension without determining what the two people feel. Their orientation towards the water may be read as an attentive pause; their joined hands introduce another kind of support. Beside the sea's broad movement, a small gesture is enough to establish it. The photograph brings together two measures: the seemingly endless recurrence of waves and a finite, shared moment on the shore. Their position at the margin makes the human encounter a decisive point of reference.
