Artwork text and archival details

Adapted from the artist’s archive.

Boats rest along the Jalangi River at Mayapur. Their quiet arrangement suggests waiting, departure and return: the river becomes more than a route through the landscape. It also offers an image of passage, allowing a reading of the boats as companions to the changing course of a life.

Infrared photography gives the riverside vegetation a warm glow against the blue of the water. This altered colour relationship makes a familiar setting seem newly visible. The scene leaves space for contemplation of movement and stillness, and of the spiritual meanings a river can hold without ceasing to be part of everyday life.
