The Infrared Journey
Teufelsberg's Sun Halo: A Berlin Perspective
A closer look at the work
A large orange circle of light occupies the dark interior. The dome’s triangular framework remains visible behind it; openings between the lower struts look outside. Small human silhouettes and marked surfaces occupy the base of the image. Intense brightness overlays the architecture without completely erasing it.
At Berlin’s Teufelsberg, two different orders meet: a regular supporting structure and a circular appearance of light whose brightness makes fixed boundaries porous. The people provide a sense of scale. Looking alternates between spatial depth and a flat sign of colour. The former technical interior becomes both a physically accessible place and a changed experience of seeing.
