Echoes from Teufelsberg

Artwork text and archival details

"Echoes from Teufelsberg" captures the aura of a site that has historically been an echo chamber of global secrets. In its scarlet hues – a palette extending beyond the visible spectrum – we are reminded that there are dimensions our naked eye cannot capture. Teufelsberg itself, a construct of hidden histories, piled from the rubble of war, once housed the world's ears, as Cold War listening stations combed the invisible frequencies of the air.

In portraying this landscape through the invisible light of the infrared spectrum, what typically lies hidden is brought to visibility. The trees and ruins, aglow in warm shades of red, symbolize a reality that transcends the apparent. They suggest that behind the evident silence and abandonment, there lies a vibrant past whose echoes still resonate through time, even if we cannot hear them.

This image invites us to question the existence of the invisible and to recognize that our perception is but a fraction of the truth. It is a visual metaphor for the notion that we should not believe everything we see or feel. Like the espionage listeners who once occupied the domes, we too must learn to look deeper, beyond the superficial layer, to uncover the hidden strata of reality. "Echoes from Teufelsberg" is thus not only a reflection of the past but also a mirror of our own perception, urging us to accept the existence of more than what our five senses can grasp.
