The Infrared Journey
Tetrapods on the island of Sylt
A closer look at the work
A grey path leads through magenta grass towards densely stacked multi-armed concrete bodies. Empty bicycle stands, posts and fencing give the foreground an everyday scale. Repeated forms accumulate into a low, difficult-to-survey wall. Turquoise clouded sky fills nearly half the frame, opposing material density with open expanse.
The bodies appear as an arranged accumulation rather than in immediate contact with the sea, allowing sculptural shape to precede function. Small metal hoops repeat the motif of stored and lined-up objects at another scale. Grass, path and concrete form an already organised landscape. Unfamiliar colour connects its parts without erasing differences between grown and industrially formed bodies.
