Camel of Childhood
A closer look at the work
The camel fills the right half and turns its head sideways. A small teddy bear sits above its cloth-covered back, its rounded form echoing the larger animal. A cropped person holds the lead at the right. Puri’s beach spreads behind them as a cool, almost empty surface, with low buildings on the horizon.
The pairing of living animal and toy shifts the scale of childhood. The bear is both a familiar object and an unusual passenger. The rope redirects attention towards an everyday relationship between person and animal. The scene remains open between excursion, work and childhood imagination, without requiring a particular memory or feeling to be assigned to those depicted.
