The Infrared Journey — Somewhere in Between
Sacrow – The Hidden Gate
A closer look at the work
A row of dark columns recedes along the left. Stepped capitals and paving slabs reinforce the pull of perspective. At the end, an arch opens onto bright water, pink trees and blue sky. The vertical format makes this view appear as a narrow luminous opening within an enclosed space.
At Sacrow’s Church of the Redeemer, looking develops through the relationship between passage and pause. Architecture directs attention towards an outside already framed like a separate image. Columns and shadows delay the route. The frame itself becomes an object of attention: it limits the landscape while making its brightness especially apparent.
