The Infrared Journey — Somewhere in Between
Whispers of Light – Pückler Park, Bad Muskau
A closer look at the work
A dark foreground trunk bends low and divides into two spreading limbs. Almost white foliage hangs over a pond whose dark surface is scattered with pale leaves. Layered crowns stand beyond; a small bridge remains shaded on the left. Monochrome distinguishes proximity and distance through brightness, texture and the strong contour of bent wood.
The unusual trunk creates an internal frame. Looking can move over its branches towards water or remain with rough nearby surface. Pale foliage connects foreground and distance while dark wood establishes a bodily boundary. Open park space alternates with immediate proximity. Calm comes through readable layers permitting different routes of attention, rather than through an absence of movement.
