Urban · Visions of Time
Bornholmer brücke, Deutschland
A closer look at the work
The Bornholmer bridge carries its reddish illuminated steel arches over an empty roadway. Triangular braces crowd the right edge, while the road bends out of the frame to the left. Dark blue sky lies above the warm orange lighting. Fine wires and individual lamps extend the technical network of lines into the air.
With no traffic visible, the rhythm of the supporting members comes forward. The bridge becomes both a route and a spatial framework directing the eye. Yet the curve prevents the passage from being entirely surveyed: its continuation remains outside the picture. A nocturnal tension develops between clear construction and an uncertain destination within an ordinary urban setting.
