Calves in front of a wall on which can be read the sacred inscription "Shri Radha" in Sanskrit; Varshana, Uttar PradeshA closer look at the work
Two pale young cattle stand before a low light-green wall. A shallow stone enclosure lies between them; an open door reveals a narrow bright passage. Dark branches frame the top and lettering marks the wall. Warm light reaches animals and sandy ground.
Similar brightness joins differently oriented bodies, introducing a small tension into calm arrangement. A built doorway and animals' occupation coexist with writing, wall and tree. Their everyday neighbourhood can be studied without making the inscription a complete explanation of the scene or of human-animal relations.
