Cloudy people in a bamboo forest, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
Pale human forms pass before dense upright bamboo. Heads, clothes and bags remain partly recognisable but dissolve into overlapping softness. Stems retain clearer edges and regular nodes. One strong brown trunk interrupts the grey-green repetition as a fixed reference.
People share the forest without becoming still portraits. Blur makes occupation temporary; bamboo appears comparatively persistent. Several durations coexist rather than a simple division of people and nature. Permeable bodies leave the environment visible while altering its appearance.
