Reflections of India
Cow and men, Indien
2011
Artwork and cultural context
Movement in filtered morning light
A person carrying a stick and bag passes a cow. Pale, slightly hazy light connects both with the wall behind. The photograph’s quietness comes from a limited set of forms and movements that do not build into a dramatic event.
Early morning in a village near Vrindavan reveals the inhabited surroundings of a major pilgrimage town. The encounter between person and animal connects the religious landscape with daily rhythms. The restrained framing gives this passing moment a pictorial presence of its own.
