Reflections of India
Dandavat parikram sadhu, Indien
2011
A closer look at the work
The tight portrait shows an older man with a white beard and pale wrapped headcloth. His face turns slightly aside, and his gaze extends beyond the frame. Warm skin contrasts with light fabric and a subdued background. Beard, wrinkles and folds offer distinct textures.
Closeness allows careful looking without explaining the whole person. His sideways gaze preserves a direction outside our view. The portrait holds visible individuality alongside unknown experience; the title provides context without replacing attention to this particular face.
