Artwork and cultural context

Two activities within a shared space

On the left, a person bends beside a cot; on the right, a man reads on a raised brick platform. Bodily care and reading occupy the same spatial arrangement. The photograph brings different gestures together without turning them into a single action.

The title identifies a morning in an ashram in Varshana, also called Barsana, within the pilgrimage landscape associated with Radha and Krishna. The image adds bodily and quiet activities at the start of the day to that religious setting.
