Reflections of India
Hampi bei nacht, Indien
A closer look at the work
An expansive sky fills most of the photograph. Blue violet lightens towards the horizon, meeting warmly lit rocks and low buildings. The landscape forms a narrow, irregular band along the bottom. A single bright point reinforces the distance between the ground and the open space above.
The composition distributes its weight unevenly: a small amount of solid ground holds against a great expanse. Hampi becomes legible through heights, intervals and light rather than architectural detail. How much of a place does a landscape photograph need to show?
