Urban · Visions of Time
Hotel Room in New York 3
2010
A closer look at the work
A dark sofa and floor lamp occupy the left, while a bright window opens the rear. Blue carpet, dark furniture and a framed landscape lie between them. Cool light touches the ceiling. Window, picture and reflective surfaces offer different kinds of brightness without illuminating the room evenly.
The view leads from a close, shadowed seating area to a distant opening. Staying and looking out receive different spatial roles. The landscape picture supplies another, predetermined view beside the actual outlook restricted by curtains. The interior contains several possible distances. Its stillness rests on visual invitations among which no visible occupant is choosing.
