Reflections of India
Jagannath temple puri ii, Indien
2022
Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
The Jagannath Temple in Puri rises against the night sky. Light reveals details of its stone surfaces while other forms recede into shadow. A golden dome in the foreground contrasts with the darker main tower, drawing attention to the layered structure of the view.
The photograph brings the physical architecture into relation with the devotional significance of the place. Carved details, darkness and perspective suggest a continuity that extends beyond the instant of exposure. Rather than explaining that significance, the image offers a sustained encounter with the temple’s presence at night.
