Reflections of India
Krishna tree, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A large tree stands on a raised enclosed platform among low buildings. Thick branches spread into dark sky. Individual leaves glow warmly while parts of trunk and architecture stand out brightly. Wires cross the space; a small structure on the right places compact form beside open branches.
Krishna Tree presents a tree as the centre of an inhabited place. Its enclosure marks a particular position without separating it from its surroundings. Growing and built forms meet at several scales. The title offers a religious reference without explaining its particulars. A living body visibly receives space within a densely used built environment.
