Reflections of India
Pilgrims at govardhan 1, Indien
2014
Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
In pale moonlight, a solitary pilgrim moves along Govardhan with his gaze directed ahead. The photograph concentrates on the determination of his stride and the clear direction of the path. His movement stands out against the surrounding night.
The location belongs to the devotional landscape associated with Krishna, giving the walk a context beyond physical travel. The image also allows a more personal reading of resolve: what sustains a person’s direction amid distraction? The pilgrim’s continuing movement leaves that question with the viewer.
