Reflections of India
Pilgrims at govardhan 1, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A man with a pale head covering crosses the illuminated ground in a wide stride. A long stick runs diagonally from his hand towards the lower left, extending the direction ahead of his body. Pale trouser folds and a dark wrap articulate the figure. Only faint tree contours remain behind him, with broad darkness surrounding the warm path.
Stick and legs form related diagonals. They make walking legible as an exchange between support and forward movement without fixing the stick’s purpose. Space lies open ahead, but no destination appears. The pilgrim title connects this visible route to a larger activity; the photograph holds its elementary enactment, one step within an unknown duration.
