Reflections of India
Pilgrims at govardhan 11, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
An adult carries a child on their shoulders across the bright path. The lower figure’s long stride forms a broad diagonal, while the child sits almost vertically above. Dark blue fabric and a yellowish head covering add colour near the top. Arms and hands connect the bodies, and the black background clarifies their interdependent silhouette.
Movement becomes a visible relationship between carrying and being carried. Both travel the same route but experience it from different heights and with different physical effort. The composition makes this difference tangible without assuming a family relationship. Within the pilgrim series, a single step expands into support: one person’s movement enables another person’s passage.
