Reflections of India
Pilgrims at govardhan 12, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
Four walking figures gather closely against darkness. Pale wraps and head coverings form a staggered group, with an orange turban supplying a strong central accent. A darker figure on the left steps forward widely. Long shadows run across the warm ground to the right, connecting the different postures into another network of lines.
The photograph makes simultaneity visible without merging everyone into one movement. One foot rises, another touches the ground, and cloth hangs or swings. The group’s rhythm emerges from these small differences. The pilgrim route becomes a shared space held together by several independent movements. Individual faces remain part of this spatial event.
