Urban · Visions of Time
Tower block 1, Usa
2010
A closer look at the work
Several skyscraper façades stand closely layered. Pale square windows repeat on the left; narrow vertical lines cross a cool-grey surface on the right. Warm light catches a red central structure with a distinct stepped edge. Dark intervals make buildings both neighbours and separate masses.
Tower Block 1 reduces the city to portions of vertical order. Streets and people are absent, yet windows provide an indirect scale of inhabitation. Different grids read as neighbouring systems. Light determines which surfaces recede and which advance. Architecture becomes a relationship of distance and visibility rather than merely a collection of individual buildings.
